Turtle Lake, Stevens Lake, Washington


Turtle Lake
This lake is a beautiful lake on the Spokane Indian Reservation. In late summer it appears as if its two lakes with a marsh separating the two sections of the lake. Fishing is the main activity on this lake, contact the Spokane Indian Reservation for rules. There are two old public fishing docks. Some will kayak/canoe on the lake. ACCESSIBILITY: PARKING... Uneven Gravel, Dirt combo parking by main T shaped dock and along the road (park totally off paved road); PATHS/TRAILS... None; RESTROOMS/FACILITIES/SHADE… None. Shade via trees; DOCKS/LAUNCHES/PLATFORMS… Two old fishing docks not wheelchair accessible. There is a dirt launch next to the T shaped dock with about a 4% grade; DIRECT WATER ACCESS… No access for wheeled mobility devices; TRANSFER SYSTEMS... None; SENSORY... No sensory tactile markers for those with visual and other impairments; CAMPING... No; O.T.H.E.R… Oddities/Barriers: Mud at launch site; Terrain: level to about 5% grades. Mostly dirt surface; H2O/Water: Water normally murky. Water temperature in the summer can be around 60 to 70 degree. No drinking water available; Environmental Conditions: Varies; Resources: Food, drinks, and gas in town of Wellpinit WA.

  1. Reading Sherman Alexie's book in english class at the moment (I am from Germany). Turtle lake is mentioned in the end of the book.

    1. What does it say about the lake? Would be super interested to know.

    2. We're reading it in an English class, too (in Oregon) Alexie talks about it being perfectly round, and no one knows how deep it is. That it might be a volcanic crater. Then Alexie talks about legends of where it got its name.

    3. Fishermen say its 10 to 30 feet deep via depth finder. I have found no info indicating it's a crater. Also, the lake is not perfectly round at all. Its long rounded shape. If you find any more info I would love to learn more.

  2. Maybe they were referring to Turtle Lake Idaho, which looks perfectly round in the picture on this very Website.
