Riverstone Pond, Kootenai County, Idaho

Radio Controlled model boats only. No swimming allowed
Riverstone Pond (In Riverstone Park) is a 1-acre pond just a few miles northwest of downtown Coeur d’Alene Idaho, and is nestled between the Spokane River and the new Riverstone Theaters and condos. Next to this park is a corporate park, retail center with restaurant, etc. The park includes play area, pavilion, amphitheater area, restrooms, picnic tables, two bar-b-q grills, open grass areas, and bike trails. The Pond has a water fountain in the middle and is where the radio-controlled sailboats sailors come to sail. No dogs are allowed in the park but there is a trail marked by red which dogs are allowed to be walked on a leash. RC model power boaters must have a muffler on their boats to keep the noise level to a minimum.

For model boat sailors the best times to sail on this pond is when there is a west or southwest wind, any other wind directs the many buildings surrounding the lake can inhibit the wind getting to the lake, especially on light wind days. The good note is the lake is large enough when there is wind from any direction the wind tends to get to it. Stronger the wind better. There is some water weeds in the lake but the city does a pretty good job managing it.

Directions: Riverstone (Pond) Park is located on the outskirts of the city of Coeur d’Alene right off of NW Boulevard. From I90 take Exit 12 and go SE toward Coeur d'Alene city center (toward North Idaho College as the signs from the interstate indicate). Maps: To view a map click on http://www.mapquest.com and type in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho pan in and follow the supplied directions to locate the pond and River Stone. Currently in mapquest their map has not been updated to show the pond full of water.

  1. Are there fish in this pond? And can you fish it if so?

  2. No fish were stocked in this lake. Someone recently said they saw a fish in the pond, so it's possible some are in the pond now. Other than this info no fish are stocked in it. I rc sail in the pond and have never seen any fish, but that was 2 years ago.

  3. Had 2 Grandmas tell me I couldn't. But I also had 10 people say they caught huge bass out of it. There are signs by the pillars that say you can't. But on the other side, there is no posting saying no fishing. Best to call fish and game and ask.

    1. Likely better to call the city as they own the lake. I have seen people fish on the pond with no issues. I think there are spots on the shore where they do not want people standing to fish, but again I would talk to the city parks department.
