Newman Lake, Spokane County, Washington


Newman Lake (1200 acres)
This lake is 14 miles east of Spokane on Highway 290. The lake is great for all types of water sports. For sailing the lake tends to have some good thermal winds that come from the North West hills. I have sailed this lake personally and had a great time sailing on it. There is a Sutton Bay Resort (12016 N Sutton Bay Rd, Newman Lake, 509-226-3660 (http://www.suttonbayresort.net) on the S.W. side of the lake with ramp, dock (& fishing dock, restrooms, camping/RV, cabins, store, and hiking trails. On North East shore there is Newman Lake Resort and Marine (12515 N East Newman Lake Dr, Newman Lake, 509-226-2727 http://newmanlakeresort.com) with a ramp, restrooms, dock, camp/RV, store and deli, and boat rentals. and there is a resort launch on the South shore. The NE public launch has restroom and NO dock, and no overhead power lines. Directions: From Spokane, go east on Trent 8 miles to Newman Lake Road, then north on Newman Lake Road 4.5 miles to Public Fishing sign. 1. Public Boat Launch
ACCESSIBILITY: PARKING... Large paved parking lot, with designed accessible and trailer parking spaces; PATHS/TRAILS... No official paths. At powerboat launch there is a paved route to the launch dock. Route path to powerboat launch dock is about 3% grade; RESTROOMS/FACILITIES… Fully accessible restroom; SENSORY... No sensory tactile markers for those with visual and other impairments. DOCKS/LAUNCHES/PLATFORMS… Two docks, one at powerboat launch, second dock is an accessible fishing dock. Sailors during the summer in particular there are a lot of trees at this site that overhang the launch area, you may have to step your mast at the dock, depending on the height of your mast; DIRECT WATER ACCESS… No access for wheeled mobility devices. This is a boat launch facility only; TRANSFER SYSTEMS... None; CAMPING... None; O.T.H.E.R… Oddities/Barriers: Nothing unusual; Terrain: Level to about 3% grade at launch; H2O/Water: Water normally murky. Water temperature in the summer can be around 60 to 70 degree; Environmental Conditions: Nothing unusual; Resources: Food, drinks, and gas in Highway intersection of E Trent Ave and N Starr Rd. Concessions at both Resorts on this lake.




2. Newman Lake Resort and Launch

ACCESSIBILITY: PARKING... Gravel parking lot; PATHS/TRAILS... None; RESTROOMS/FACILITIES… One restroom, not ADA compliant; SENSORY... No sensory tactile markers for those with visual and other impairments. DOCKS/LAUNCHES/PLATFORMS… One very long dock not considered wheelchair accessible, one gravel launch with some cement surface showing. Caution sailors! There are power lines crossing near the launch; DIRECT WATER ACCESS… No access for wheeled mobility devices; TRANSFER SYSTEMS... None; CAMPING... No tent camping. RV campsites with hookups; O.T.H.E.R… Oddities/Barriers: Nothing unusual; Terrain: Level to about 3% grade at launch; H2O/Water: Water normally murky. Water temperature in the summer can be around 60 to 70 degree; Environmental Conditions: Nothing unusual; Resources: Food, drinks, and gas in Highway intersection of E Trent Ave and N Starr Rd. Concessions at this Resort include store and deli.



3. Sutton Bay Resort and Launch

ACCESSIBILITY: PARKING... Gravel parking lot; PATHS/TRAILS... Hiking trails, not wheelchair accessible; RESTROOMS/FACILITIES… One restroom, not ADA compliant. Old cabins, not wheelchair accessible; SENSORY... No sensory tactile markers for those with visual and other impairments. DOCKS/LAUNCHES/PLATFORMS… Three docks not considered wheelchair accessible. Two short docks on either side of swim area that includes a beach, one long dock with slips and fishing are at end of dock. One old cement launch. Caution sailors! There are power lines cross near the launch; DIRECT WATER ACCESS… No access for wheeled mobility devices; TRANSFER SYSTEMS... None; CAMPING... Tent and RV camping with hookups; O.T.H.E.R… Oddities/Barriers: Nothing unusual; Terrain: Level to about 3% grade at launch; H2O/Water: Water normally murky. Water temperature in the summer can be around 60 to 70 degree; Environmental Conditions: Nothing unusual; Resources: Food, drinks, and gas in Highway intersection of E Trent Ave and N Starr Rd. Concessions at this Resort include store.
