Mountain Meadows Lake
This lake is located about 12 miles from Newport, in Pend Oreille County, WA. Fishing on this lake is done from the bank off of the county owned Deeter Road (see white arrow in map below). We want to make it clear this lake is totally privately owned shoreline other that the one spot indicated in the map below. DO NOT access private land and obey all county/state and private landowner signs. Deeter Road which is a dead-end road that is on the east side of the lake, along the shore is county owned and allows public access unless otherwise posted by the county. This road connects to Baker Rd, which is a private road and does not allow access and is typically gated (if gate is open, do not enter). Making the effort to accessing this lake makes no sense when there are so many beautiful public lakes in the area.

This lake's shoreline is heavily lined with lily pads and other aquatic plant life making fishing from the bank from the one spot along the county road difficult. Waterfowl make this lake their home. No hunting allowed. There are some reports that this lake is 20-30 deep, but there is no verification of this, all info we have found at its deepest in early spring is about 10 ft deep. Due to its shallow depth with warm water in the summer Alge build up is a given, plus its marsh conditions makes this lake home to a lot of mosquitos. Fishing: Limited info, Crappie and Bass. Not stocked by state fisheries. Directions/Maps: Visit google.com/maps type in Mountain Meadows Lake or GPS coordinates 48.196151, -117.225960
Attention... Obey ALL private and county/state signs!

The lake in its entirety is private property and is off limits to the public for any reason..
ReplyDeleteWho are you? And how do you know this? This is not the info I received previously.
DeleteIt's entirely private, not open to the public. I know because it's listed for sale and I'm thinking about buying it... Look at Zillow.com.
ReplyDeleteI will take a look at that. Also look at the counties public and private land survey. Thank you for the info.
DeleteI looked at the county land survey. Lake is entirely private and owned by JAMI L WALKER ET AL. The guy above saying that there is forest service around the lake is just wrong. There isn't any. Totally private lake. When I buy it, I will definitely be taking legal action against all trespassers, so be warned.
DeleteWe get people like you fairly regularly that say land is private and then when we do research, we discover it's not private. So instead of threatening, why do you not tell me where I can go to confirm what you're saying. You buying it does not mean you own it. So, are you going to buy all the land around it?
DeleteAnd I might add just because some info is on Zillow does not make it correct. That is like saying if it's on Google is must be true.
DeleteI literally said that I looked at the county land survey. You could do two minutes of Googling and find the same, but instead you seem to want to insist that the lake might be public, based on nothing at all.
DeleteSo here it is:
https://pendoreilleco.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=3da51727ed494b5080a10f928f2d3674
enter the address "631 deeter rd". There are two parcels. One encompasses the North side of the lake, and the other, the South side. Both are privately owned by JAMI L WALKER ET AL.
In Washington State, technically, lakes are public, but the shore of the lake is all private land, so you cannot legally cross that land, even at the thinner sections where the county road (public) is close to the lake.
You also claim something bizarre: "You buying it does not mean you own it. So, are you going to buy all the land around it?"
Buying it would absolutely mean I own it. What are you on about? Yes, I am looking at buying all the land around it. More specifically, I would be buying the two parcels that the lake is within. I would not technically own the lake itself, but I would own all the shoreline from which the lake could be accessed. It would then be up to me to decide who is allowed to use my property to access the lake.
Your comment is not quite accurate. Might want to do more than 2 minutes of research, like maybe 5 minutes. There is one spot on the map, see the two updated maps supplied to this site. As you can see there is actually a spot for public access. So no the land all the way around the lake is NOT totally private due to the county road and its easement. Honestly seems a waste of time to me to access this like but if we want to be accurate, then let's be accurate.
DeleteWe wanted to update people about this lake access. There are comments here that are not quite accurate.. There is a small portion of the lake that comes just off the Private property on the NE Corner of the property that is the only “Legal Access” to be able to get to the lake. However, it is not an easy spot to access it. The main place where the public currently accesses the lake is illegal according to the sheriff. He has stated that when people step off the county road to launch their raft, kayak, etc. in this typical accessed area they are trespassing through the private land to get to the lake. The sheriff indicates people have gotten away with it for years due to ignorance and lack of private land signs being posted. The current owners do not take many precautionary measures to deter lake access, but this could change at any moment via fence, cameras, no trespassing or county/state signs. Deeter Road is a dead-end road that is county owned and thus allow public use unless otherwise posted by the county/state. This road runs along the east show of the lake. Also, Deeter Rd runs into Baker Rd which is a private road. Whether the gate at Baker Rd is open or not, one must not enter as you would be trespassing. This note supplies official info from current landowner, county, and sheriff officials. If someone buys the land public access likely will only be available at one spot. To me there are far better lakes to go to in the area that have great access and far more fish, etc. No fish are stocked here by the state fisheries.
